As announced a few days ago, with effect from February 22nd, AfriNIC is moving a step ahead in its transition process. We have effectively started PHASE II of the transition - operating as a full RIR with a second opinion from other RIRs more>>>

Appointment of new Representative in ICANN

AfriNIC board has appointed the following person:

Alain P. Aina
Gregory Massel

as Observers in the ASO AC (and NRO NC) in replacement of actual listeners

Yann Kwok
Christine Arida

ICANN board has approved AfriNIC's application for recognition submitted in September 2004 to become the fifth Regional Internet Registry. ICANN Board has also granted AfriNIC the provisional LIR status .

In the mean time, AfriNIC continues the transition process from the RIRs serving Africa.

AfriNIC CEO, Adiel A. Akplogan has presented AfriNIC's application to become the fifth Regional Internet Registry to ICANN today September 1st 2004. The ceremony happened in Fiji during a special event at APNIC19 public policy meeting the document was received by John Crain ICANN representative attending the meeting.

In the normal processing of its transition plan, AfriNIC moved and started in conjunction with its application for recognition the co-evaluation of resources requests coming from African region. Starting September 1st all requests (from ARIN, APNIC and RIPE) will be proceeded by AfriNIC Hostmaster Team.
